most private health insurance cover non-PBS drugs up to $500.

Tax rebate is 20% offset for medical expenses over $2000


So if bronchitol is $12k p.a

your out of pocket expense is...

$12,000 - $500 (private health insurance rebate) - $1900 (tax offset) = $9600 p.a


the more important point is that by making this decision, PBAC has telegraphed that Bronchitol is not effective given the price tag. note: $12k p.a is not a excessive treatment cost given the prices of other PBS drugs available (some are over $100k p.a!)


I remain positive on the company long term but short-term there is alot to do!
