Yesterday the government announced it was abandoning talks to close highly Australia's dirtiest brown coal-fired power stations. Opponents of brown coal and even the industry's peak body says that means brown coal will continue to produce electricity in Australia for many years to come. But the Environment Minister says the carbon price means the market will decide if brown coal still has a future.
