Existing methods of immobilisation, such as passive coating or covalent coupling, damage protein structure to varying degrees. Since damage to a protein’s three dimensional structure results in reduced or lost activity, preserving protein structure is of utmost importance. Given the complex interactions at the molecular level, attachment of proteins to synthetic surfaces with existing methods can be very much a trial and error process.

In contrast, Anteo’s Mix&Go relies on using multiple, weaker, non-covalent binding interactions that together form strong binding (Velcro Effect). These non-covalent interactions decrease protein damage leading to an increase in the percentage of functional proteins on the surface.
