I would see Kmart and target especially more as competitors, with target being a slightly higher price point but seen as better quality. From my convos with a few mums, best and less are perceived as the cheapest and seen as ok quality, but target isn’t that much more expensive and the quality is good.
target have shut a load of stores and are focusing more online as of the last 18 months. Definitely will be interesting to see how much of this kids discount sector goes online vs adult fashion/apparel and more expensive purchases.
one ray of light is that shipping container costs have fallen off a cliff… $1400 vs $9500 during peak supply chain covid chaos, China to USA at short notice. This should help with costs going forward.
