Principally market cap & liquidity(shares available to be traded).Also up until now foreign registered companies such as Anvil, News Corp weren't eligible to be in a S&P ASX index but moves are afoot to change this & may have already been approved but not sure.
Fingers crossed as it does make a difference espec with turnover which has often been pathetic in AVM due to lack of buyers - scares the living daylights out of large holders when you're trapped in a stock you can't sell if you want to. An S&P ASX200 listing would attract more players.
