    not quite - it stands for ex dividend. When a dividend is announced there is also a date when if you still hold the shares you will still get the dividend - that’s called cum dividend. If you buy the share on the ex dividend date or after you won’t get the dividend. Payment date might be many months after the ex dividend date.
