Internet of Things

So many things have the internet in them already, you could say that we already have the Internet of Things.
But what 2016 will bring is the beginning of a way to properly harness those Things, getting them to work together in such a way that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Your front door lock talks to your air conditioning unit talks to your motion sensors, so the house knows to switch off the A/C when you're the last person to leave the house. That sort of stuff.
Just who will take the lead in this command and control function is the real question. Rumour has it, Google's OnHub router will make a play for the role. Belkin, which already has a lot of smart home products, could have a go. Samsung might try to capitalise on its SmartThings acquisition of 2014. Amazon's Echo speaker could be a contender. There are so many competitors in the Internet of Things, what we really need isn't a leader so much as a standard way of connecting devices to each other. But a leader would be a start.
