The Federal Government's so-called "Schoolkids Bonus" has passed through the Lower House of Parliament with the support of crossbench MPs.

The scheme will replace the Education Tax Refund, providing more than 1 million families with upfront payments for school expenses.

Under the bonus, outlined in last night's federal budget, families earning less than $120,000 a year will receive $820 for high school students and $410 for each child in primary school.

The legislation had already been introduced into Parliament, and Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese earlier expressed confidence it would pass despite opposition from the Coalition.

Fancy the coalition voting against that!!!
