It does not alter the fact that the highest ever official interest rate of 21% occurred during the term of a Liberal government. Another poster tried to say this was not so and I corrected him/her.

As to Whitlam he was beaten by Joh Bjelke Petersen acting contrary to all precedent and principle in appointing a non labor senator to replace a Queensland labor senator who died. This caused Labor to lose control of the Senate which then acted contrary to all precedent and principle by blocking supply. The dismissal was dirty politics at it's worst.

Frazer and Howard got in and things continued to deteriorate until Hawke/Keating carried out serious financial amd industrial reforms and we had the boom of most of the eighties which entered a short recessionary cycle in the early nineties which got Howard/Costello elected in the mid nineties just as that cycle was turning back to boom.

Howard/Costello rode the boom well for eleven years but got voted out anyway in 2007 because the electorate was fed up with how out of touch they had become, the unpopular legislation they were introducing, and the unpopular war they got us involved in.
