We don't know where your interpretation of the news item ends and your biased opinion commences do we?
The construction industry includes one person businesses that supply the building / construction industry so it's not like there's 3,650 Grocon like businesses going to wall each year, nice try tho'. A collapse of decent sized businesses is going to take with it many smaller allied businesses so while the number sounds alarming it's only the poorly run businesses that are going to the wall. They're taking innocent consumers with them too which is a blight on the oversight of our governments.
Who'd have thunk that free money a few years ago would result in cowboys entering what is clearly a bubble only for them to leave when the tap got turned off? It's just the shite being weeded out and it's a shame the RE industry isn't a part of this cleanout. They don't actually put anything in 'cept buying a shiny suit but that's another story.
When money exits the system because people can no longer afford to buy then prices come down to meet the market and the demand changes to a different product.
