    sypaladin, the government pays for may things that most people don't need or want. It doesn't mean that it is wrong for the government to do so.

    The government builds roads most tax payers will never ever use or need.

    Also people without cars who don't need roads, subsidize roads for those with cars.

    Your analogy of the driveway could be applied to those in your street who only use the footpath and not the road, and vise versa.

    The government doesn't need to supply the NBN (FTTH or FTTN versions), but it will increase commerce and government revenue. Exactly in the same way as upgrading the roads between Melbourne and Sydney does.


    Maybe a better solution would be to do away with both the FTTN and FTTH NBN, and just do a fibre connection point at the front of the property.

    That way anyone who wants a connection just needs to connect the same as you connect your driveway to the road at the front of your property.
