With all due respect. It appears very few on this thread have any understanding of how severe these cost increases have been. This graph gives some idea, but it does not even cover the full increases over the last 24 months.
What we are seeing are increases in just 12 months that are more than in the last 10 years. This represents the biggest increase in cost since the GST was introduced 20 years ago. And you could see the GST coming.
Interesting that many say the builder should "absorb" the increases into their margin, but no one ever asks how much the margin is and can it even be done?
This is a once in a multigenerational event, there is no winners and no easy solutions.
The industry will lose some very good operators, (No it is defiantly not just the dodgy builders going under), and some innocent clients will endure a very stressful time.
