I think the financial engineer's that were responsible for the GFC have moved on & some of the reforms like Dodd-Frank act is in place now to stop a similar scenario taking place (ie: sub prime being rolled into MBS that were marked as AAA debt ?). I am sure someone is going to mention "Silicon valley bank" but from memory that happened because some of the reforms were rolled back by the Trump administration not to cover regional banks.
