it will take a while to explain how shorting works. you can google it. the very simple way to sum up the difference and concept.
shorting takes profit from other people who invest in the same stock(like casino, in order for u to win, some one will have to lose)
long term investors profit from company growth and margins. (it could be win-win for everyone in this case)
