But Al Salt Slag Processing. Don't get me started! Little anecdote I discovered on a wall plaque walking through Harvard one day years ago. A US guy Charles Hall discovered a super cost efficent way to extract Al from bauxite in the late 1800s. To market the find, Hall in cooperation with the university, drummed up thousands of brochures to herald the discovery to the industrialists of the day. Unfortunately the brochures had a typo with the second "i" ommitted and it was deemed too expensive to order another print run. Hence the Americanism, Aluminum, which survives to this day. True story. Was surprised to find Wiki didn't even know that.
