Steve,
What it appears happens is traders jump in for a quick profit with no intention of outlaying any money,
they hope to sell before paytime arrives (t2 two days after purchase). Accordingly if they have not sold when the time arrives they sell, quite often at a loss and this tends to drop the SP as Jaded alluded to they are not always welcome.
