Contrary to the loudest voices on the right and left, Australians are a reasonable bunch – as long as they believe they are being treated reasonably. And that, for some unfathomable reason, is what the Abbott government doesn’t seem to understand.
Thus the government is bumbling and stumbling into 2014, imperilling the consensus necessary for genuine economic reform.
