A victorian driver was failing to self isolate in South Australia.

He drove an unregistered car while exceeding the drunk driver
    limit by four times.

H drove on the footpath and hit a street sign.
But, was he wearing a seat belt?

    Should be in humour thread.

A 28-year-old Victorian man has been charged after allegedly crashing his car while drunk, disqualified and in breach of COVID-19 self-isolation orders in South Australia.

    Key points:

    • A Victorian man crashed his car on a street in Port Augusta
    • Police say he was driving drunk and disqualified
    • He had been ordered to self-isolate upon entry to South Australia

SA Premier Steven Marshall said he was "angry" at the alleged offences and that the police would "throw the book" at him.

According to SA Police, the man entered South Australia from Victoria eight days ago, when he was issued with 14-day self-isolation order — standard for interstate travellers under the SA's coronavirus restrictions.

Interstate travellers ordered to self-isolate may only leave their accommodation if seeking urgent medical assistance.

But at about 6:30pm last night, police were called to Parkside Row in Port Augusta, where the man had driven his car onto the curb and crashed into a street sign, causing minor damage to the vehicle.

The driver recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.229 — more than four times the legal limit — and a search revealed he was a disqualified driver.

Police say the man was arrested and charged with drink-driving, driving while disqualified and aggravated driving without due care.

He was issued with an extra 12 month loss of licence and his vehicle was impounded for 28 days.

He was also fined $1,060 for breaching a self-isolation order.

The man will face the Port Augusta Magistrates Court in September.

Mr Marshall told reporters this afternoon said he was "angry" to hear of the alleged offences.

"We are absolutely angry that this Victorian's come across the border, done the wrong thing, broken the commitment that he made and then [police allege] caught for drink-driving," Mr Marshall said.

"The police in South Australia will absolutely throw the book at this individual."

    Victoria's coronavirus spike

Victoria is currently suffering a significant spike in new COVID-19 cases, with six Melbourne local government areas declared coronavirus hotspots due to high rates of community transmission.

The state recorded 49 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

South Australia will increase police patrols on the Victorian border as a result of the surge in COVID-19 diagnoses, starting next week.

On Friday, SA Premier Steven Marshall re-committed the state to removing border restrictions on interstate travellers starting July 20.

"We remain committed to opening up state borders on July 20," he said on Friday.

"We will continue to closely monitor what is happening in Victoria but we do have confidence that they will be able to get on top of these clusters that are there at the moment."
