Yes but guns have few uses other than for killing, target practice is practice killing. Cars, boats the axe to cut the fire wood, chain saws, lots of knives of various sorts are primary used for other purposes.
Sure you can have people licences and trained to use a gun but people snap and in a moment of temporary rage or insanity can reach for a gun and use it. Think Oscar Pistorius

Sorry, I can't see how more people having guns makes us safer. If that was the case why does South Africa and USA have much higher crime rates?
