I have a double wall socket which has no wiring attached and in fact is just a cover screwed to the wall which I can remove and you would be surprised how much I can put into the hole behind. My passports, FX cash a few important papers etc in a plastic bag all secreted away in there. My house was burgled while I was away two years ago and I lost a few items but they didn't find my treasure.....I check the plastic bag occasionally in case a few mice want to go on vacation..
Works for me, I also keep a baseball bat in my bedroom.
It's a terrible feeling to have your home invaded and I have full sympathy for any victims....
