I agree the govt needs to get tougher on the unions that are breaching normal civil standards.

the CFMEU has always been a stand-out rogue union subject to frequent exposure of corruption and intimidation, bribes and standover tactics to ensure full membership. its a paradigm which gave Howard the compelling evidence to crack down on the Waterside Workers back in the 90s. and the construction industry has been reported almost every year for as long as I've been alive.

each successive govt has tried to fix this intransigent problem. yet none have had the testicular fortitude to go after the construction industry with a real will to defeat the corruption. and its not just the union but also the construction businesses who play along with the unions.

the problem for the Labor Party is the Party is the coalition of all unions. the party was created by the unions to provide them with the means of having a say in industrial relations laws. they are necessarily funded by unions because of this membership. so the Labor govt must stick by what they can legally do without creating a bigger problem by doing what Howard did in the 90's.

imo its the culture of workers in the union that creates the problem and shutting down the CFMEU won't change the culture. it'll only carry over to the next union formation.
