Burleson Energy places its bets on nano-satellite communications

"RESOURCE exploration and development company Burleson Energy is diving into the communications sector, with its acquisition of a nano-satellite company.
Burleson Energy will acquire 100 percent of the shares in UK-based nano-satellite technology company Sky and Space Global (SSG).
The aim is to operate a narrow-band communication network based on nano-satellite technology from SSG.
According to Burleson, the SSG nano-satellite technology is set to revolutionise the satellite communications industry, thanks to its highly disruptive pricing, and the ability to provide phone and messaging communication solutions anywhere globally.
The SSG team is said to be highly experienced and credentialed, with internationally recognised satellite and aerospace industry experience.
The global satellite narrow-band communications market is worth $5 billion today, but forecast to grow to $10 billion by 2021.
Burleson Energy says its nano-satellite network will bypass many of the current disadvantages of satellite communications, which is expensive and inaccessible to everyday users and requires dedicated receivers.
SSG’s technology has the potential to offer communication rates significantly cheaper than existing providers due to significantly lower costs of operation
The technology is currently proceeding to pilot phase through the launch of two or three nano-satellites to form a constellation and initial network. Once the pilot phase is complete, the company will be able to commence initial limited service.
The target, SSG, is a UK incorporated company with R&D operations in Israel. The core SSG business is to construct a communication infrastructure based on nano-satellite technology and develop the highly complex and sophisticated software systems that will deploy, maintain orbit control and handle communication code between each of the nano-satellites to give a global coverage. "
