Abbott gave a speech to the National Press Club a couple of weeks ago in which he stated the two areas of public policy on which he'd changed his mind during his time in public life: Multiculturalism and the PPL. With the PPL we know he went to a grander model than most supporters of the idea would have done. Similarly with multiculturalism I would expect his approach to be ideological, even at times if he finds his own policies "confronting." The ALP might find themselves on the wrong foot if they try and typecast him as a "Queen and England" style conservative. Similarly many conservatives might find he's not as in tune with their "old fashioned" views as they may once have believed.
