News has come out that Victorians may face the possibility of being lumped with paying compensation to the victims of the of Black Saturday bushfires. This would be paid through increased electricity prices: Why on earth did we sell our Utilities.
Enough is enough. A foreign owned electricity company fails to have adequate insurance cover and then expects the electricity consumer to make good the shortfall. This coming on top of the ten per cent increase in power prices associated with the Carbon Tax will raise a lot of ire among some, especially those who have been critical of the Gillard Government. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered regarding responsibility. The Australian public and governments have done much to assist through grants and donations. Now it has been proposed that we be slugged more. It seems to me that responsibility at all levels needs to be taken. Adequate insurance by all concerned should be compulsory: both for property owners and utility companies. Enough is enough!
