its fairly likely that many people on rural properties want to burn off excess kindling accumulation and grasses/ground fuel around their places or properties, fallen trees, branches and leaves, may have resulted in many of these, some were in remote bush where such is unlikely.
its not just the wind but the plunge into low humidity that results in ground fuel drying out and becoming ignitable.
