SYDNEY - The Australian market has received negative leads from offshore trading overnight. All key equities indices were lower, as were precious and base metals and oil.
On the ASX24 at 0713 AEDT, however, the December share price index contract was 13 points higher at 4,656 points.
In economics news on Thursday, the Reserve Bank of Australia delivers its annual report, and the Australian Office of Financial Management issues two tranches of Treasury Notes of $1 billion and $600 million maturing on February 28, 2011.
In equities news, bank reporting and annual general meeting seasons continue. ANZ Banking Group delivers its annual results, as does Australian Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.
Newcrest Mining Ltd, Flight Centre Ltd, Penrice Soda Holdings Ltd and Orbital Corporation Ltd hold annual general meetings.
On Wednesday, the Australian stock market slumped as the heat fell out of resources and the major banks retreated from early gains.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index fell 39.66 points, or 0.85 per cent, to 4,648.1 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index lost 40.99 points, or 0.86 per cent, at 4,720.5.
