"Fire at BlueScope's Western Port Plant 13 May 09 At approximately 12.00am today, Wednesday 13 May 2009, a fire occurred at the Western Port plant Pickle Line Building. The Pickle Line is located in a separate building between the hot strip mill and the cold mill. The fire was brought under control around 5.30am today. No other facilities at the plant have been damaged. The cause of the fire and extent of the damage is yet to be determined. An investigation team is on standby to undertake this exercise when it is safe to do so later today. Planning to maintain continuity of supply to customers has commenced. The Company currently has capacity and inventory in its other Australian operations to meet most of the market needs served by the Western Port plant. Production of a small number of grades of steel are unique to the Western Port facility. Assessment of alternative sourcing arrangements for those grades is underway. The company will provide a further market update when the damage has been assessed."
