Jan 16, 2009 (The York Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- UNIFF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Sydney Australia-based Unilife Medical Solutions is planning to relocate its global headquarters to Fairview Township by March 31. Unilife, which is publicly listed in Australia, designs, develops and manufactures healthcare safety products for the medical device and pharmaceutical industries.
Stephen Allan, vice president of communications, said Unilife is moving into 50,000 square feet of a building being occupied by wholly-owned subsidiary Integrated BioSciences Inc., 637 Lowther Road in Lewisberry.
The company plans to hire between 20 and 30 people over the next couple years, bringing the number of employees at the Lewisberry plant to about 100. A handful of top management, including CEO Alan Shortall, have been transferred from Sydney, Allan said.
The company will retain a small research and development team in Sydney, but Unilife plans to register as a U.S.-based company and apply for listing on a U.S. stock exchange, Allan said.
Allan said the purpose of the move is to be "in the center of the action" and have all of the company's key people under one roof.
The company manufactures its products, including its popular pre-filled and ready-to-fill syringes in Lewisberrry.
Allan said employees are also designing a high-volume assembly line for future growth.
