    Interesting you mentioned the Jewish contribution to the film industry.

    In fact Jewish immigrants in the USA founded it, by buying small cinemas and discovering people paid money to see whatever was screened...

    They had the foresight to then produce the films themselves, and for many years had a monopoly until trust-busters moved in.

    They sent out Cecille B DeMille to make a film out west, he stopped at an orange farm called Hollywood, liked the weather, used a barn as a studio and the rest is history.

    One of the most inspiring biographies I've read was about
    Sam Goldwyn --Shmuel Geldfish-- a 16 year old Polish kid who walked across Europe to board a steamer for America.

    He worked in a glove factory and discovered that quality gloves earned more money than poorer quality ones....

    He applied the same philosophy to his films later on.
