    hi pizza,

    not a rort imo. many folk place bids with brokers and forget all about them. they can hang about for ages. others enter bids based on trends at the time and leave them, hoping. imo there is little rorting here. if you want to watch for 'rorts' then look at price capping ie large bids but above previous trades. especially if trades are, or have been small, then a big entry can frighten people one way or another. often these big capping entries run away or change tack very quickly to suit themselves.

    bots are the issue as far as i'm concerned. many bots playing to support a price. mainly watch for maturing options a month or so ahead. much fiddling done here to keep them in the money. beware of this big time.

    nothing to stop one from entering a silly bid, especially when mkts are very nervous or likely to be. by all means enter silly bids on the buy side in times of panic and in the silly good times for bids on the sell side. all hoping but they can and do pay off.
