Terry McCrann in todays Herald Sun, in an article on the Xtrata/Jubilee offer, has this great throw away line:
"Mining companies are a bit like Melbourne property. Buy anything at any price and work it out later."
Whilst this is flippent I think it does capture the current sentiment for the big cash endowed players.
