    the prospects for BHP shares in general are a side issue with this - the same logic works with other buybacks. ATO franking credit cash has paid for family holidays in Vanuatu & NZ over the past couple of years thanks to Rio, Westpac and Telstra

    but this is cream on the top - the main reason for participating is that the capital loss results in minimizing CGT paid on other gains

    I actually don't understand the logic of this to the ATO and can't believe it will last forever but in the meantime the rules are there to be used
