I know a broker flogging the buyback to superfunds
ie capital return of 2 the balance franked dividends
(I think that is an unbelievable rort with ATO tax office approval)
but at the same time he says you have to buy back the stock on market
he calculates a huge tax loss for the capital return of $2
and oozes tax refund for the dividend
once I became aware of the details of the buy back, I assumed that caused the huge trading and rise in the sp
accordingly I am waiting until after 31.3.06 when buy back is finished before I start looking to add to portfolio
I had thought the stall by the chinese about the prices had longer to go, well until a result was out
so I think most of the activity last week was due to the buy back
I will wait and see happens
of course I could be wrong, its just an idea
    cheers
