    They are buying back regular amounts with a 1 year time frame in mind - dont want to spend it all at once especially when the bottom is surely not in yet.

    dont expect miracles. when the Nikkei was falling all during the 90s the gov pension funds were buying to support the market but that did not stop it plunging 75%.

    a buyback does not shrink the business - the assets remain the same but each remaining share is more valuable, thats all. the question is whether they could spend the cash on more acquisitions and that would be suicidal in the current climate.

    management is doing the right thing, just dont expect too much. there is no conflict of interest so far.
