McNamee believes this is the first time in Australia's history that we have made a significant global medical breakthrough and then participated in the final commercial rewards. Conservatively - and initially - it is likely to add between $150 million and $200 million to CSL profits in two or three years or about $1 a share (after tax) at the high end. But it could be much bigger because the CSL technology, which is based on the amazing work of Ian Frazer and the University of Queensland, has enabled CSL to also gain a royalty interest in a rival GlaxoSmithKline product. The CSL equity in the blockbuster drugs is now worth at the very least $2 billion.
