"The company carried out a comparative analysis on the project’s sulfur control options – using Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) or procuring lower sulfur coal, and determined that the latter be more cost effective. The company will limit sulfur content of coal to 0.6% or less and will meet IFC SO2 emission guidelines of 2,000 mg/Nm3 (at 6% excess oxygen) and 450 ton SO2 per day, without using FGD.

Question for MNM guys….Has the company ever addressed this issue directly and stated how they intend reducing the sulphur levels at BM? (Up to 4.5% in one core recently announced)

Sulphur not only produces acid rain but is also highly corrosive to infrastructure which would require expensive corrosion resistance…ie. stainless steel, Galvanic protection via sacrificial anode blocks and the like.
