re: stocko what do you mean This is my opinion only & I can't see how they can be safe from further losses and gain desired yields to make the life book profitable.
If they replace the equity portfolio with Corporate Bonds they will be dumber then they already look - even if equities are going nowhere. They need short term treasuries even though the yield is low.
Knowing their track record they will chase bonds in companies that end up like Ahold, WorldCom, etc.
Over half the US bonds are now junk, because of continuing downgrades. When defaults occur the face value disappears.
The shares may rise on any news and it will give a good shorting oppotunity.
Yesterdays AFR had articles on Deflation and the effect it has on creditors ability to repay/service their commitments. The Central bankers are becoming worried.
