Banks have better and safer LOCAL business to do than payment retailers as they have banking licenses endorsed by local gov, however this makes a drawback for global payment as no gov would permit overseas banks to sit over their local banks, BNPL must be a pure commercial company without any gov endorsement if they need to go overseas.
That’s why MasterCard and Visa would have grown globally, no bank is their killer or even competitor, but some booming BNPL companies.
