Regarding your first point, I have no idea about any shorting that may or may not be going on, nor doesn't it really matter to me. Shorting has zero impact on the long term performance of a company's long term shareprice which is purely based on company performance and since I'm a long termer, it doesn't affect me.

Regarding point two, "does this mean that this will continue each day or is this a once off", who knows. Perhaps the buying will continue today, or perhaps they bought enough to meet their mandate's requirement so do not need to buy anymore. Or perhaps they will push it down early with small sales then start buying again towards the end.
