About one third of people with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices and masks treat sleep apnoea are not obesity related.
In a study, Obstructive Sleep Apnoea without Obesity Is Common and Difficult to Treat: Evidence for a Distinct Pathophysiological Phenotype, has the following results in 2017: Twenty-five percent of the participants with a diagnosis of OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) had a body mass index (BMI) within the normal range (BMI < 25 kg/m2) and 54% had a BMI < 30 kg/m2 (nonobese).
