The takeover story is pie in the sky stuff. On the other hand the trader central article gives a pretty good summary of where MQG is at the moment.
In the last two years the company went through a massive investment phase in the US and Europe now we have to see how it plays out. It's a risk reward story and the jury is still out.
At the end of the day MQG can't beat the market conditions, all other investment banks are suffering too. The real worry would be if the company had been permanently damaged by the GFC, or if it is facing new market conditions, including the entrance of new competitors, and can't adapt.
Their track record of finding new markets is pretty good so I am hoping history will repeat itself. We should get a better idea on April 29, if not before that.
