Two stocks that are worth buying this summer

In this section we look at two speculative stocks that we think are worth buying over the summer. These stocks have been in the headlines in recent times and are definitely worth a look. When assessing these two stocks, we take into account the downside and upside risks and see whether both are worth adding to your portfolio. We also look at the company’s fundamentals, technicals and thematics. As with all stocks, these two carry risk which we urge you, to consider.
    Brook Limited (BEE)
Here is a stock for beer connoisseurs. The company is called Broo Limited and it’s behind the Broo Premium Lager beer. The company listed on the ASX back in September last week following a $15m raising at 20c. Shares are now trading at 27c after hitting a high of 34c. The brewing company was founded by partners Kent Grogan and Kelly Davidson in Sorrento, Victoria, Australia, in September 2009. Broo Premium Lager is a premium lager at 4.6% alcohol. It also brews an Australia Draft brand. Broo’s vision is to distribute to China and last week it did just that. The company announced that it landed a strategic distribution partnership for the Broo Premium Lager beer products in China via its wholly owned subsidiary Broo Export Pty Ltd. The agreement is with Beijing Jihua Information Consultant to exclusively market and distribute the Broo Premium Lager beer products in China for a period of 7 years. This is a huge leg up for the company and will see it accelerate its expansion of Broo Premium Lager beer products sales and distribution in the lucrative Chinese beer market. Production and packaging is currently undertaken by Jinxing Beer Group, a Chinese brewing company and distribution by Henan Liquor via its large distribution network and 260 retail outlets. Broo is currently producing its beers at Icon Brewing in Sydney.
As well as China, the company has been making inroads since its listing. It acquired the Mildura Brewery Co and has undertaken initial production of its beer products at the Mildura Brewery. It has completed significant upgrades to the brewery which will provide both increased production capacity and greater efficiencies. It will produce kegs and bottle products of ‘Broo Premium Lager’, ‘Australia Draught’, ‘Kakadu’ and ‘Mildura Brewery’ beer brands. To add to this it also landed a National distribution agreement with METCASH subsidiary, Australian Liquor Marketers Pty Ltd for its beer products to be placed onto the ALM beverage product portfolio that is offered to ALM’s network members. This is a massive deal that will see it supply more than 14,500 hotels, liquor stores, restaurants and other licensed premises throughout Australia and New Zealand. And finally BROO has secured a ten year retail lease agreement for a 1500 sqm site located on Ocean Beach Road, Sorrento in Victoria. Sorrento Brewery intends to commence refurbishing the premises and rebrand it as ‘Sorrento Brewery’. The venue is due to open this month.
Whilst the company is still trading at a loss, we don’t think it will be long before it’s in the black. Whilst we haven’t had a Broo yet and can’t attest its taste, it looks like its expanding and landing agreements with the right parties. The company is in development and expansion phase. So losses are expected. For that reason, this stock isn’t for the faint hearted. It’s cheap but risky. Our end conclusion – Broo is extremely risky and its future success relies on a positive uptake in China as well as Australia. Both unproven. But if you believe in the company’s vision and its Chinese potential, the upside is massive.  We think it’s worth the risk. Buy.
