You completely omitted the huge costs of lockdowns. Politicians and one-track epidemiologists rarely if ever mention these.

    Let's list a few:

    1. Mental illness cases skyrocket.
    2. Eventual risk of suicides rising.
    3. Substantial drops in income for huge numbers of lower paid employees in hospitality, retail and even wholesale, aviation and ground transport plus restaurants and cafes, yet no one in the public sector is similarly adversely affected.
    4. Business failures, or, if not, a rise in debt for many enterprises.
    5. Landlords including SCentre Group and commercial, industrial and residential unable to evict non-paying tenants, or finding it difficult to do so.
    6. The value of commercial property shrinking, so under some LGA rating systems, residential owner occupiers and landlords must bear an increased council rates burden.
    7. Reduction in investment attractiveness: some instead goes overseas, or interstate.
    8. Demands for 'assistance' means governments make quick, sloppy decisions that see public money not always spent well and government debt skyrocketing. This doesn't mean JobKeeper was a disaster but its hasty implementation meant some 'rough' policy edges.
    9. State governments promise 'business support' but only a fraction of what is promised is spent, and eligibility criteria cleverly weeds out many who thought their businesses would qualify.
    10. Decimation of CBDs as retail hubs and entertainment areas - Melbourne is the worst example.
    11. Strip shopping centres (and SCentre!) also suffer from rising vacancies.
    12. Children have online learning made mandatory, but this pushes them behind peers elsewhere. Can young children concentrate looking into a screen for several hours per school day? Parents are forced to supervise when mum or dad needs to be working, or undertaking other tasks.
    13. Given many older Westerners live alone, imposition of harsh 'no visits' policy creates loneliness and lowers enjoyment of life. No grandkid cuddles!
    14. 'Working from home' may be productive at times, but the lack of true face-to-face social interaction means careers suffer as one can't as easily/quickly communicate with one's subordinate or superior.
    15. Illogical rules such as in Victoria Jim's Mowing franchisees being forbidden to work despite social distancing and no others present depletes income.
    16. Exercise, a healthy way to remain fit or lose weight is heavily regulated ('two hour limit' in Victoria) yet its benefits typically outweigh what health bureaucrats see as (exaggerated possible) 'costs'.
    17. Rules are complex, may be contradictory and are dreamt up on a whim by public servants, and often enforced by police who are ignorant of the law or emergency public health orders.
    18. Strict travel restrictions mean if one can't travel more than five kilometres, businesses such as garden centres suffer because (legally) one can't visit.
    19. Residents in one area can be treated differently to another, or face immensely impractical restrictions. For instance some workers in the Sydney LGA of Fairfield may be 'essential' yet every three days they have to undertake a COVID-19 test that may involve a multi-hour wait. The business then has to cover for them if say it's a chicken processor or abattoir.
    20. The definition of 'essential workers' varies form state to state so can be inconsistent.
    21. Mandating of mask wearing means those who are exempt (due to a medical condition) may face abuse from 'entitled' individuals.
    22. Law enforcement agencies' staff are suddenly allowed to enter homes and businesses without a warrant. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
    23. Alarmist predictions from health tsars routinely fail to occur, or are grossly exaggerated, yet there are huge costs from adopting their flawed advice. Reminiscent of Tim Flannery claiming Brisbane's dams would not fill. A flood as a dam wall burst was the result!
    24. Marginalised groups such as aged care residents or the disabled may love a fortnightly excursion to an SCentre comfortably heated or cooled shopping centre but are denied this limited freedom.
    25. Perhaps most of all, businesses dislike uncertainty. They cannot plan with confidence. Restaurants might have 10 hours notice of restrictions being imposed so must throw out (or donate to St Vincent de Paul et al) costly fresh food.

Overall, the NSW approach has been the best in the nation, way ahead of where I live in Victoria.
