It appears to me that the board attitude towards the return of capital, due to the asset sale, favours the T20. and Institutions.
Considering the cost of living crisis that has been occurring for the last couple of years, this amounts to the board being inconsiderate to the majority of shareholders.
In another AMP thread on the buybacks I insert a photo of my return of capital payment in 2006, it also happened in 2007.
Possibly due to amount of funds received for disposing of assets!
Some poster’s put forward counter arguments. It still benefits these passive holders because of the POSSIBLE increase in EPS …. this is comparing something that is usable now, compared to a theoretical future outcome.
Are there any shareholders who held shares in Suncorp in 2019, when SUN sold an asset and returned capital as a payment to all shareholders.
A more knowledgeable holder could explain why the AMP board didn’t go along a similar line because of the similarities in disposing of assets.
My recollection is that I got a special special dividend to use up the company’s franking credit.
The only way to distribute the rest of the excess fund in an equitably manner was with a return of capital payment accompanying the special dividend payment slip.
There was also a restructuring of shareholding with my holding being reduced to about 90%…. that should counter the benefits of buybacks on EPS.
is there any form an action that shareholders can take against the board and management team as I believe that at the moment my evidence points me to believe that the buyback was designed to be discriminative, favouring a select group shareholders.
