I think this would now be a good time to restart the on market buyback, since the PBG and the suitors could not come to an arrangement for a buyout ?

There are 2 options that I can think of is,

1:PBG/suitors wanted to establish an unencombered base for a takeover, without rumours or a buyback happening

2: They are conserving cash for the dividends, while trying to keep the debt down.

We will see the play over the next 6 months.
