I held BHP shares before & following its buybacks - look what is being done to it!
IMO the advent of CFDs, ETFs & the practice of allowing shares to be 'borrowed' for short-selling are now far more significant.
I hold shares in DTE because of its plans, actions to date & based on the past achievements of management from AOE. They have our money & I expect them to use it to implement the company's plans.
With about 30% of shares supposedly changing hands these last two weeks & the SP already on its knees only 16c of downside risk remains before I can buy the company for peanuts.
