APRA had to step in and curb investor lending. The issue that the big 4 banks had in reeling in lending was a matter of industrial organisation and game theory. The first to flinch gives up market share. This is why regulation is so important as it has the power to reel everyone in at the same time so no one gives up market share.
Data and speeches provided by the RBA, APRA, AUSTRAC and ASIC are all pointing towards the banks being much more responsible lenders post Royal Commission.
