IMHO there are only 02 reasons to buy a vacant block of land.
01,if you are going to build in 06 months and
02,if you have any inside knowledge that someone else (like Coles supermarket) will need the property sometime reasonably soon.
Apart from that i have had about 07 residential real estate transactions and negatively geared and rented them out myself and i would say that is a pretty good investment.
BTY most of my investments were pre CGT 1985.
Also at the moment "be careful', we are in a most interesting part of the real estate cycle.
I have seen people getting burnt when they bought at the wrong time.
