At the risk of a deluge of abuse: Have you considered investing in ETPMAG (silver ETF that is traded on the ASX)?

If you want some heavy stuff to hold in your hand though bullion bars are the cheapest to buy. But I think they are too problematic and I would stick to bullion coins. The heavier the coin you buy, the cheaper it will be (per ounce).

Perth Mint is the way to go - even though some bullion dealers may be cheaper. You can trust the Perth Mint product much more than bullion dealers or ,god forbid, Ebay.

Plenty of people love Perth Mint's silver kookaburra bullion coins. But they have koala and Chinese Year coins too. Stick to the bullion coins and don't worry about the collectables.

Here are the latest Perth Mint prices:

You can organise to buy them over the phone and they can deliver to your home.

The silver coin prices have come off the boil quite a bit over the last week or two.
