Buy in increments of just under 5k aud. That way the government will not know that you have it. Pay cash. Store physical metal, don't buy it on paper, don't tell anyone you have it or where it is stored.
Use a reputable bullion dealer. Everyone has their preference, but I like my coins, others like the bars.
